Grumpy Cat is Now the Sad Face of Friskies!?
1 October, 2013

Grumpy Cat has no reason to be grumpy!  Let’s face it… she is not only a huge internet sensation, the subject of a movie, best-selling book and the face of Grumppuccino, but she also signed an endorsement deal with Friskies!  When will the madness end!  Or maybe we feline owners are just a little bit grumpy that this adorable feline is getting so much attention and endorsement deals while we try to claw our way to the top.

How Grumpy Cat began his journey

Grumpy Cat, whose actual name is Tardar Sauce (given by the daughter of his owners) is an almost normal cat from a small town in Arizona. Her big eyes and frown shaped mouth are what have made her famous. It all started when Bryan Bundesen, the brother of Grumpy Cat’s owner Tabatha, put a photo of the cat on Reddit with his perpetual frown and was shocked by all the attention Grumpy received.

The owners then uploaded video footage of Tardar to prove that she does look naturally grumpy, and the videos went viral almost instantaneously. And, then the official website, GrumpyCats.com was created so the whole world could see photos of Grumpy Cat and her great memes and sayings about her ‘bad day’.

Grumpy Cat is still a relatively normal cat

The owners say that they don’t know Grumpy’s breed. They attribute her small size and perpetual scowl to “feline dwarfism.” But they make a point of saying she was not bred purposefully as a munchkin cat. She was born from two normal domestic cats.

The owners also say that Grumpy visits the vet regularly and has a clean bill of health. Her petite size and famous face is likely due her feline dwarfism and her rear end wobbles a bit when she walks due to this; otherwise she is a perfect little kitty!

Besides her great fame, the owners say that Grumpy is a normal kitty. She plays, hides, and acts as normal cats do including hiding behind the curtains.  She isn’t in front of a camera all of the time like many people might think.  Her owners only take photos once every week or so and on the few occasions where they have met with the media, they make sure she isn’t handled by many people. Grumpy is a member of their family before anything else.

Grumpy’s latest endorsement deal

And then, of course, the latest endorsement deal was just announced by Nestle Purina PetCare to have Grumpy cat as the official spokescat for its Friskies brand. Her first official duty will be a live appearance at the annual Friskies cat video contest awards on Oct. 15, where she will receive a lifetime achievement award (and she’s only a couple years old)!

Maybe we (I) are just a little jealous of Grumpy Cat’s fame!  Who knew a sourpuss face could become the spokescat of 2013!

Is it too normal to be a happy cat?  Sammy and I want all our pet members to be well, happy, rather than grumpy.
