A kennel provides lot of space while keeping pets secured. You can use a dog kennel to house train your dog, protect your dog from forming bad habits and also to keep him safe when you are busy with your work.  Before buying a kennel, you should be aware of some of the crucial factors.

Here are few things to consider before buying a dog kennel:

Pet size

The very first thing you should think about when buying a kennel is the size of your pet. A dog kennel should be large enough so that he can get enough space to move around and lie down in it.

If your pet is a puppy or a small size dog then a small size kennel is ok.

Security

You have to consider the safety and security of your dog. Few dogs can jump very high. You have to ensure that your dog can not jump over the kennel. In that case, a kennel with a height of 6ft is enough. If your dog tends to climb up the kennel, than avoid the mesh panels and just go for bar panels as they are difficult to climb up.

Comfort

The most important thing you have to remember is to keep your dog happy. A dog kennel should have sufficient space so that he can play, exercise and take rest.

When buying a kennel for your dog, go for a kennel which includes a raised bed or in which you can install a raised bed. It will protect your dog from the cold of floor and save them from possible health problems. Furthermore, an easy to wash bed will add an extra benefit to making it easier to clean.

Choose material that will keep the inside of your dog kennel warm in winter and cool in summer. The kennels made with plastic can be a right choice.  Also look for a kennel which is easy to clean and dry.

Material and Construction

Dog kennels are generally made with wood, metal, plastic etc. For larger dogs, the kennel should be strong enough to keep the dog from breaking it.  To make the kennel more secure, you can use a ground anchor.

The plastic dog kennels that are best are lightweight and easy to move and clean, but strong and durable. Choose the kennels that are well galvanized as they are rust free and more durable.

Flooring of the dog kennel is also an important factor. Concrete or steel can be used but, is less likely to absorb feces and urine comparing to wood and plastic. Wooden floor is also difficult to clean and bacteria may grow there.  A wipe clean surface is better than others as it can be easily cleaned with detergent.

Weather condition

A dog kennel should be well ventilated so that your loving pet can get enough air and light. Make sure that your dog kennel has a screen cover or roof over it which will protect your dog from rain or heat of sun. You can use a sheet of canvas or roofing panels. Roofing panels are very cheap and can be used permanently.

Space for water and food storage

It is quite important to keep food and water available for your dog inside the kennel. Some kennels come with built-in food containers. To keep your dog calm and energetic have food and water available in the kennel.

Easy to set up

Some dog kennels are easy to set up and some are not. Choose one that is easy to assemble.

A kennel provides lot of space while keeping pets secured. You can use a dog kennel to house train your dog, protect from forming bad habits and also to keep him safe when you are busy with your work. If you consider the above recommendations before buying a kennel, then it will definitely assure a comfortable environment for your dog.
